Before we get into astrology, let’s remember that 2023 is a 7 year in numerology. 7 energy is about truth, wisdom, change, and evolution. This year invites us to turn within to accelerate our spiritual growth. Introspection, analysis, and research can draw us into the mysteries of knowledge. In the tarot’s Major Arcana, 7 is The Chariot card, signaling progress, completion, and movement. The 7 year perspective sees life as a series of sacred cycles – a constant unfolding of beginnings and endings that never ends. The gifts of the 7 year are spiritual wisdom and mastery. It asks us to look honestly and deeply at the meaning and manifestation of “as within, so without.”
The transits of 2023 show us how energy is moving and manifesting within and without. Being conscious of it means you can choose to work with it, which makes all the difference. Let’s get into it!
Note: The following dates are calculated in Pacific Time.
Saturn enters Pisces
March 7 – May 24, 2025
Saturn spends about 2.5 years in each sign, and the last time it was in Pisces was in 1996. Saturn is about responsibility. It asks us to own our ‘stuff,’ put in the work, and get things done. Pisces is a spiritual, imaginative sign that can bring great vision and creativity or a tendency to escape and ‘check out.’ Saturn in Pisces asks us to get real and honest about our spirituality and what we do with it. In other words, what’s it good for, and how does it improve our lives?
Jupiter conjunct Chiron in Aries
March 12
Jupiter and Chiron meet about every 12 years, bringing a profound potential for healing. Jupiter brings growth and opportunity, and it also shines a flashlight of truth. Chiron symbolizes the ‘wounded’ stories we’ve come to believe about ourselves. Underneath those limiting stories and beliefs, the ‘medicine’ of our wisdom and healing gifts wait to be discovered and put to use. With Jupiter and Chiron in Aries, we can heal identity wounds, restore courage and strength, and trust our intuition and instincts. There’s no better time just to be yourself.
Pluto enters Aquarius
March 23 – June 11, then off & on for 20 years
This is the biggest paradigm shift of 2023! When Pluto changes signs (on average every 20 years), our lives and society shift significantly. Pluto is about power, transformation, regeneration, and eliminating anything that prevents growth. Aquarius is a sign of change and innovation, so it aligns well with Pluto’s intentions. While Pluto is in Aquarius (off and on for the next 20 years), we expect a redistribution of power – from a top-down to a bottom-up approach. And any corruption or toxicity impacting the greater good will be exposed, so we can remove it and redirect our collective energy. We also look forward to new ideas and developments in science and technology.
New Moon Solar Eclipse in Aries
April 19
The first eclipse of 2023 is in Aries, kicking off a new Aries-Libra eclipse season (we still have a couple left in Taurus-Scorpio, too). If you need more independence, courage, and energy, tune in. Solar eclipses bring new beginnings, and Aries reminds us to stand up for ourselves and be authentic. Jupiter harmonizes with the eclipse, adding optimism, luck, and confidence. Pluto forms a challenging square, asking us to keep the balance between personal agendas and the needs of others. So, do your thing, but remember, it’s not all about you.

Mercury Retrograde in Taurus
April 21 – May 14
Mercury turns retrograde about three times a year. This round is in grounded, practical, slow-to-change Taurus. Mercury loves movement, but Taurus takes comfort in holding steady. The question here is: What are you holding onto that keeps you stuck? It might be a way of thinking – how’s your self-talk? Or maybe your view on money and security. Rethink old habits to re-inspire your life.

Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio
May 5
What are you attached to? Is it time to let it go? This Lunar Eclipse spotlights opportunities for change, especially with awakening Uranus in the mix. With the Scorpio Full Moon opposing the Sun in Taurus, we can struggle between the desire to keep it simple and the need to dig deeper. Say, for example, the difference between sharing a pizza with easy conversation and unpacking an intensely emotional situation for hours. You know which side you lean toward – your default. Change comes through doing things differently. Try it!
Jupiter enters Taurus
May 16 – May 25, 2024
Jupiter spends about 1 year in each sign and will leave Aries for Taurus on May 16. Jupiter is about growth, optimism, inspiration, opportunities, and what we often call luck. Taurus is an earth sign that values beauty, comfort, stability, and security. Jupiter and Taurus are both associated with abundance and happiness. While Jupiter is in Taurus, we need more grounding, pleasure, self-sufficiency, and sustainability. You may find that patience, choosing wisely, and putting in the work to take practical steps make you naturally lucky. And don’t undervalue things that make you feel good because feeling good attracts more good things.
Jupiter in Taurus square Pluto in Aquarius
May 17
Jupiter squares Pluto every 5-6 years. One way to look at this transit is a change in ideals or expectations. Pluto transforms anything it touches, and Jupiter can be seen as our path or way through life. Here’s the challenge: Look at what you’ve been going for and what or where it’s getting you. There’s no sense in putting energy into something that simply doesn’t fit or work. Put effort into what you can more easily achieve. Empower yourself to succeed by getting out of old ruts and getting more bang for your metaphorical (or literal) buck.
Jupiter conjunct North Lunar Node in Taurus
June 1
Lucky Jupiter aligns with our path of destiny, restoring hope. By ‘hope,’ we don’t mean waiting, wishing, and expecting something better. We mean the power of inspiration and imagination that lives in and rises out of each of us, especially in difficult times. Jupiter asks us to believe in goodness and help each other. The North Lunar Node symbolizes our collective intention for growth. In the sign Taurus, this means we can do more with what we have, and we have more ‘wealth’ than we realize. We just need to see it from a new view.
Cue Emily Dickinson: “Hope” is the thing with feathers – That perches in the soul – And sings the tune without the words – And never stops – at all.
Lunar Nodes enter Aries & Libra
July 17 – Jan 11, 2025
When the Lunar Nodes enter Aries and Libra on July 17, we shift to a new collective path of karma and dharma. With the South Node (our past conditioning) in Libra, we gotta get real about our relationships and how we make decisions. Cooperation and balance are necessary, but too much compromise gets us nowhere. Sometimes someone has to move ahead and risk not pleasing everyone. North Node (path of destiny or collective growth) in Aries calls for the courage to go first. It reminds us there are times to stand on our own. We can’t all just go along for the ride, letting someone else choose, vote, or tell us what we need. Your voice and actions count.
Note: The Lunar Nodes are naturally retrograde and move backward – so they go from Gemini to Taurus, to Aries, etc.
Venus Retrograde in Leo
July 22 – September 3
Venus turns retrograde every 18 months, and of all the planets, it spends the least time retrograde. Venus Retrograde periods can be challenging when it comes to money, love, and relationships, especially if you have friendships or partnerships (past life, too) that need healing and closure. During Venus Retrograde, past romances sneak back into the present and whatever you have a relationship with is up for question and redefinition.
In the sign of Leo, Venus Retrograde is about reclaiming passion, romance, and everything that lights you up. Is your heart in it? Do you love it? Do you feel more alive after you do it? Leo lives and loves big. It’s ruled by the Sun, the center of our solar system. Start taking up your space if you haven’t made enough room for yourself (it’s so easy to play small). This might sound weird, but it just means expressing yourself fully, so don’t adjust yourself to fit someone else’s image. It’s also a great time to reconnect with your creativity and desire. Just be careful not to go overboard – Leo can spend the bank. Make sure any investment is worth the return.
Pluto in Capricorn square the Lunar Nodes in Aries & Libra
July 22, July 25 & July 28
Taking a step backward can be the best move forward, and this is one of those times. The Lunar Nodes represent our journey from past to future. Any planet squaring the nodes means we’ve ‘skipped a step’ somewhere along the way. With Pluto, we need a power check, so pay attention to power dynamics – how you use your power, give it away, or avoid it altogether. Honesty is a big step toward empowerment.
Mercury Retrograde in Virgo
August 23 – September 15
With Mercury Retrograde in busy-minded Virgo, we can rehash pretty much anything. Mercury Retrograde is always a good time to pick up old projects and look at old problems for new solutions. In Virgo, there’s extra analyzing and processing potential. Some friendly advice: Give your ideas and concerns an extra mental whirl, but don’t get stuck on the hamster wheel. Thinking is powerful, but it only gets you so far.
New Moon Solar Eclipse in Libra
October 14
This Solar Eclipse in Libra helps you know what you want in a partner and ask for it. With Mercury, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, and the North Node in the mix, all forms of ‘we’ and ways of being a ‘we’ need a second look. The moment we see someone for who they truly are is a gift, whether we like it or not. Eclipses expedite the inevitable, so be grateful for the awakening.
Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Taurus
October 28
The final eclipse of the year gets us back to essentials. Assess what you need across the board – from money, food, and shelter to love, comfort, and peace of mind. Lunar eclipses help release what doesn’t serve the soul. Taurus isn’t interested in meaningless work or effort. Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto all lend their energy to catalyze this value assessment. The bottom line is something doesn’t make the VIP list anymore, so let it go.
Mercury Retrograde in Capricorn & Sagittarius
December 12 – January 1, 2024
The final 2023 Mercury Retrograde begins in Capricorn. Mercury Retrograde is always a time to re-think and re-do. In Capricorn, it’s an opportunity to make sure your goals lead to what you actually want. Capricorn will climb any mountain – but is it the right one? Mercury enters Sagittarius for the last days of this retrograde – a reminder to reclaim your truth. With Sag, it’s not enough to know it in your head; you gotta live it.
